Breast Reduction

Breast reductions are usually requested for the discomfort, inconvenience and embarrassment of large breasts. The goal of this procedure is to decrease the volume of the breasts, improve the shape and lift the nipple/areolas. This may be done through similar techniques described above for breast lift. See the American Society of Plastic Surgeons Breast Reduction link. Dr. Remington likes to use short scar techniques and usually performs a vertical technique with the scar pattern around the areola and down to the fold under the breast; a “lollipop” scar. The skin is shaped over a reduced and newly formed breast shape. The procedure is usually done under a general anesthetic of about 3 hours. The removed breast tissue is always sent for pathology examination. Recovery is approximately 2 to 3 weeks.
